Simple Diff is a free tool for comparing text, code, JSON, and PDF or DOCX documents. Files are read and compared in your browser without uploading the documents for server processing.

Choose a comparison

Compare by lines, word blocks or visible characters. JSON mode formats the content, can sort keys, and preserves number values. Duplicate keys are rejected to avoid ambiguous interpretations.

The Pages view compares the appearance of PDFs, including added or removed pages. Optical character recognition (OCR) is not provided.

Understand the result

Counts and similarity depend on the comparison unit and selected options. The .patch file describes changes between the original text in the two inputs, independently of display filters.

Contract mode changes the style of change markers; it does not replace professional review. Available memory, file size and PDF characteristics can limit processing.
